Since its establishment in Beirut, Lebanon in 1972 as a trading house, concentrating on the distribution of petroleum products in the Mediterranean region, NAFTOMAR has since developed to become a major player in the LPG field.
Following our first transaction in 1976, we soon took advantage of the vast potential of the LPG market; this led in due course to the opening of a chartering and ship management office in Piraeus, Greece.
Simultaneously, a representative office was also opened in Paris under the name of CHEMIGAZ S.A.R.L. With this development, the elements were then in place for us to establish effective communications with the oil majors, brokers and the LPG market.
In 1991, NAFTOMAR business address was transferred to the newly built location in VOULA, Athens, Greece, providing its management and staff a modern and soothing working environment.
Despite early trading difficulties with chartered-in vessels, in 1977 LPG trading and ship operations were united with the acquisition of our very first dedicated vessel, the 4,000 m3 LPG/C Gaz Unity.
This significant step paved the way to our expansion into dedicated LPG transportation. On the way we recruited specialized staff while also gradually increasing our fleet capacity.
